MEDINA, Ohio — Valley Forge boys basketball used a suffocating first-half defense and a balanced offensive attack to build a big lead and then held off a late Buckeye surge for a 58-55 road victory Friday night at Buckeye High School.

The Patriots seized control early, turning defensive stops into transition opportunities while clamping down on Buckeye’s perimeter attack. Valley Forge limited Buckeye to just 10 points in the first half, repeatedly forcing contested jumpers and rushed possessions. That defensive effort allowed the Patriots to build a lead that grew to as many as 20 points before halftime, setting the tone for the rest of the night.

Forward Mykel Robinson led the way offensively for Valley Forge, finishing with a game-high 24 points. Robinson scored from all levels, attacking the basket in transition and providing key finishes in the half-court offense. Guard Justin Harb added 14 points, giving the Patriots a reliable perimeter option and helping them sustain possessions when Buckeye tried to chip away at the deficit.

Jaden Gill contributed 10 points in the frontcourt, providing timely baskets to halt Buckeye’s mini-runs and working effectively around the rim. Guard Isaiah Paoletto chipped in seven points, spacing the floor and capitalizing when the defense collapsed on Robinson and Gill inside. The quartet provided the bulk of the scoring in a game where Valley Forge needed production from multiple spots to withstand the hosts’ late push.

Much of the Patriots’ success started on the defensive end. Colin Warner controlled the boards, limiting Buckeye to one shot on most possessions and helping Valley Forge close out defensive stands. In the backcourt, guards Aiden Soto and Mason Furukawa applied constant perimeter pressure, disrupting Buckeye’s ballhandlers and keeping the home team on its heels throughout the night. Their work at the point of attack helped fuel the early run that opened up the double-digit advantage.

Buckeye mounted a rally in the second half, gradually cutting into the 20-point margin and forcing the Patriots to execute down the stretch. Valley Forge, however, did just enough in the closing minutes, converting key possessions and getting critical stops to preserve the three-point win. Despite being outscored after halftime, the cushion created by the dominant defensive first half proved to be the difference.

With the victory, Valley Forge has now won four of its last five games and improved its record to 8-11. The Patriots will look to build on their recent momentum as conference play continues, leaning on the formula that led to Friday’s win: aggressive defense, rebounding control and a balanced scoring attack led by Robinson and the core rotation.
