Valley Forge Boys’ Wrestling 2024 Season Preview

The Valley Forge Wrestling team enters its second season under the leadership of Coach Finowski and his dedicated staff with high hopes and a renewed energy after a successful 2023-24 campaign. Last year, the squad not only won a conference championship but also demonstrated their individual strength by qualifying seven wrestlers for the district tournament, including a standout performance from Junior Nate Hale, who earned a state alternate position. With the core of last year’s team now graduated—seven seniors who were key contributors—Coach Finowski and his staff are focusing on integrating their younger talent and building on the foundation laid in 2023-24.

While the loss of such a strong senior class presents challenges, it also opens the door for emerging athletes to step up. With a blend of returning veterans and new faces eager to make their mark, this year’s team is focused on continuing the program's upward momentum.

Key Returners

The Valley Forge squad will be led by Junior Nate Hale, who has already shown his potential with a state alternate spot last season. Hale is a dynamic wrestler with an aggressive style, making him a leader both on the mat and in the practice room. His experience and determination will be crucial as he looks to push deeper into the postseason and secure a state berth this year.

Seniors Anthony Wing and Daniel Sanabria provide valuable leadership and experience. Wing is known for his experience and knowledge of the sport, while Sanabria is a versatile wrestler with the ability to compete at a high level in multiple weight classes. Both will be expected to not only lead by example but also help mentor the younger wrestlers who will be joining the varsity lineup this season.

The Next Generation

While Valley Forge lost a significant portion of its lineup, there is optimism surrounding the younger wrestlers who spent time on the mat in the offseason. These athletes have put in the work and are ready to make an immediate impact, both in the starting lineup and as key contributors to the team’s success. Some of these wrestlers have already shown great promise during the summer and preseason and Coach Finowski is excited to see how they will grow into their roles.

Team Outlook

Valley Forge’s success this season will depend on the continued development of its younger wrestlers. The team’s balance of experienced upperclassmen and hungry underclassmen offers a lot of potential, but it will be crucial for the new athletes to find their rhythm early. The goal remains clear: build a competitive team capable of challenging for another conference championship while also preparing for the individual challenges of the postseason. The team’s culture, established last year, remains strong and will serve as the foundation as they build toward long-term success.

The road ahead may be challenging, but it’s one that Valley Forge is ready to travel—one match at a time.
