PATRIOTS NEWS ·

Over the weekend, the Valley Forge boys wrestling team did something that had not been accomplished by a Patriots wrestling team in 32 years – capture a share of a league championship.

At Saturday’s Great Lakes Conference individual tournament, the Patriots battled Westlake all day, and heading into the final championship round, Valley Forge had a slim 11.5 team point lead over the Demons. Recognizing the crucialness of every point and the need for wins, the Patriots in the finals wrestled tough and prevailed.  A handful of third place wins along with two middleweight champions left Valley Forge atop the leaderboard with 184 points and earned them the tournament championship!

Seniors Daveon Cook (150) and Bryson Ziol (157) gave the Patriots back-to-back champions with
both wrestlers pinning their opponents in the finals. Finishing in second place were sophomore Nate Hale (113), freshman Amir Abukhalil (175) and senior Elijah Wiggins (285).

Capturing third place were junior Anthony Wing (126), junior Adam Beaty (132) and senior
Danny Grayson (215). Finally, four wrestlers earned fourth place: senior Bobby Tupa (120), freshman Zamani Matsuo-Jamieson (144), junior Daniel Sanabria (165), and senior Chase Scheely (190).

Valley Forge will share the overall conference crown with Westlake who took second place in both
the league dual and individual tournaments while the Patriots finished in third place in the dual
tournament and first place in the individual tournament. Before Saturday, the last time the wrestling team had won a conference or league championship was 1992.
