Gabriel Wright
When Valley Forge High School wrestling needs a steady hand and a spark of energy, all eyes turn to Gabriel Wright. A senior leader for the Patriots men’s wrestling team, Wright has become the kind of wrestler every program hopes for—relentlessly competitive on the mat and quietly dependable behind the scenes. His standout season, capped by being named February 2026 Performer of the Month, is the result of years of determination, resilience, and a deep commitment to his teammates.
Wright’s journey hasn’t been a straight line. Along the way, he has battled through injuries that could easily have derailed his progress or dampened his spirit. Instead, they became fuel. Each setback pushed him to work harder in the practice room and become smarter in his approach to training and recovery. Coaches and teammates see the difference in how he prepares—every drill done with purpose, every rep completed with the next match in mind. His ability to respond to adversity has become one of the defining traits that makes him stand out.
That perseverance has translated directly into results. Wright has piled up more than 20 wins this season, a milestone that reflects not just talent, but consistency across long weekends, tough duals, and high-pressure tournaments. Competing at the 144-pound weight class, he has earned second-team honors in the Cleveland West Conference, establishing himself as one of the area’s most reliable and dangerous competitors. His performance also positioned him as a district alternate, keeping him in the postseason conversation and underscoring how far he’s climbed in a demanding bracket.
Joanna Torres
For Valley Forge High School’s Patriots Women’s Wrestling team, senior Joanna Torres isn’t just another name on the roster — she’s the standard. A 2026 OHSAA state qualifier and February 2026 Performer of the Month, Torres has turned her final season into a powerful story of resilience, leadership and quiet determination that’s lifting an entire program.
Torres’ journey to this moment hasn’t been easy. She has battled back from injury to excel in her senior year, refusing to let setbacks define her final chapter in a Patriots singlet. Instead of backing down, she attacked her rehab with the same intensity she brings to the mat, turning long days of recovery into a launching pad for one of the strongest seasons of her career. That resilience now shows in every match, in every scramble, and in every late third-period push.
Her hard work has paid off at the highest levels. As a 2026 OHSAA state qualifier, Torres stands among the elite in Ohio girls wrestling — a testament not only to her talent but to her perseverance. With major postseason events like the OHSAA Sectional Tournament in Avon Lake and the OHSAA District Meet in Findlay on the Patriots’ schedule, her presence in the lineup sends a clear message: Valley Forge isn’t just competing, it’s contending. For younger wrestlers in the room, seeing a Patriot on the state stage turns big dreams into visible, reachable goals.
